 Home-Start Harlow is a local branch of the national voluntary organisation, with charitable status, in which volunteers offer regular support, friendship and practical help to young families under stress in their own homes helping to prevent family crisis and breakdown.

Home-Start is for a family with a least one child under five years of age. Caring for children, particularly the under fives, is not always easy and can, at times, be very stressful. Most parents can recall the days when they would have liked to chat things through with a friend or to have someone to provide that extra pair of hands.

Home-Start Volunteers, mostly parents themselves, understand very well that need and are ready to offer help and friendly flexible support.
NEED SUPPORT?

As a parent you might ask for Home-Start's help for all sorts of reasons:

  • You may be feeling isolated in your community, have no family nearby and be struggling to make friends,
  • You may be finding it hard to cope because of your own or your child's illness,
  • You may have post natal depression,
  • You may be a Lone Parent,
  • You may have been hit hard by the death of a loved one or
  • You may be struggling with emotional and physical demands of having twins or triplets - perhaps both into an already large family.

Help is at hand. There is no stigma attached to Home-Start's help - the fact that almost 25% of families refer themselves to us is proof of that. We try to support any family who needs us, as long as they have at least one child under five.

When you ask for Home-Start's help you can also be sure of total confidentiality.

CONTACTING US
 After asking for our support you will meet with one of our local co-ordinators who will try to match you with one of our volunteers.

Then, whenever possible, one of our volunteers, who all have parenting experience, will visit you for a couple of hours a week and aim to give you both emotional and practical help. Home-Start Volunteers are not paid for their work. They work alongside the other professional agencies to support each family.
